2021, water and watercolor

The painting series has been made by employing water’s cohesion property of creating a convex meniscus. The round shapes in the painting were created by dome-shaped pools of water. Watercolour pigment was then added into the pools. As it was drying out over several days, the pigment behavior in water was manipulated by the artist. The patterns were naturally created by the paper bending from water, the paper texture and the pigment swimming.

The shape of the pools and the composition have been carefully devised by the artist in a way that the colour stands out from the plane. This effect has been inspired by Rothko’s paintings.
